Dee: The Light That Holds It All Together (Happy Birthday)

Some people walk into a room and change the temperature.

Dee changes the weather.

She doesn’t need to be the loudest, or the wildest, or the one with the big entrance. She just arrives. Calm, radiant, coffee in hand. And suddenly the world makes sense again.

The One Who Holds It Together

If you’ve ever worked with Dee, you already know. She can keep me calm, charm an entire room in two languages, and still find a way to hum an Oasis song mid-crisis. Sometimes all three at once. She has the kind of energy that grounds everyone around her without ever dimming her own spark.

She’s the kind of wedding planner who doesn’t just design a day. She designs the feeling inside it. The pace, the breath, the moments no one expected but everyone remembers.

She’s a tap dancer with perfect rhythm and timing, in life as much as on stage. One moment she’s coordinating a luxury wedding in Hakone. The next she’s deep into Real Housewives, sipping rose, texting me: “Don’t panic, I’ve got it handled.”

She always has it handled.

What People Don’t See

Dee listens. Really listens.

She understands people not by what they say, but by what they mean. That’s what makes her dangerous as a planner. She picks up on the thing the couple hasn’t said yet, and builds the whole day around it.

She’s also the person who will make you laugh until you cry over a badly timed joke. Who can turn a mistake into a story and a stressful day into something that ends in dance.

She brings humour to absolutely everything. Especially when I’m being dramatic. Which, let’s be honest, is often.

And she is so, so loved. Friends and family scattered across the globe who all know the same thing: Dee is one of the good ones.

Adventures, Gin, and Madonna in Aomori

Her adventures are legendary.

She’s trekked to Everest base camp, ridden questionable Mongolian horses, and once had an old lady in Aomori mistake her for Madonna. To be fair, I kind of see it.

She’s the girl who doesn’t drive but somehow always gets us exactly where we’re supposed to go. Who finds beauty in the smallest things. Morning light through a ryokan window. A quiet onsen at dusk. A perfectly brewed coffee in the middle of nowhere.

And when life turns into a movie montage (road trips, late-night edits, airport gates, hotel keys) Dee is always the steady shot. The warmth in the frame. The reason it all feels possible.

The Point of Us

Together, we’re opposites. That’s the point.

I’m loud, impulsive, allergic to moderation. Dee is exuberant, patient, quietly radiant.

I ignite. She illuminates. 37 Frames works because of that alchemy. 37 Frames works because of her. She’s the one holding the light while I chase it. The laugh you hear off-camera when something truly beautiful happens.

And somehow, after years of weddings, travel, deadlines, and late-night ramen runs, she still finds time to ask: “Are you happy?”

Every single time, the answer is yes.

The Wish

So here’s to you, Dee.

To your heart, your humour, your patience, your playlists, your perfect timing. (Professional timing: flawless. Personal timing: we won’t discuss it.)

To the woman who makes the impossible feel effortless and the ordinary feel like something worth protecting.

May your coffee always be strong, your to-do list drop below triple digits, and your Spotify full of Oasis.

May there be more dancing after hours, more red lipstick, more laughter echoing through old ryokans and Paris side streets.

And may the light you give to everyone else keep coming back to you, tenfold.

Happy Birthday, Dee.

Until the last frame.
