What a Lucky, Ridiculous Thing It Is to Even Exist

I woke up feeling grateful this morning. In Miami. On the other side of the world. And thought… What a lucky, ridiculous thing it is to even exist. To wake up and see light pour through the curtains. To taste oranges in summer. The see the colours of the leaves changing. To pick up a rental car and drive to the Florida Keys (which is on the schedule today)… To walk into a room full of people you love and hear music and laughter spill over the edges.

You don’t need a reason to celebrate. You are the reason.

Celebration Isn’t Just for Milestones

Somewhere along the way, many of us were taught that celebration has to be earned. That it’s reserved for birthdays, anniversaries, degrees, promotions, or wedding days circled on the calendar.

But existence itself is absurdly worth celebrating. Just waking up to see another sunrise. Just loving someone so much it makes your chest ache. Just finding joy in the ridiculous miracle that you’re here at all.

And maybe that’s why we do what we do. Because weddings … whether they’re grand or intimate, traditional or unexpected … are really just excuses. Excuses to gather, to love, to mark this strange, miraculous thing of being alive together.

The Secret Ingredient of a Wedding Day

We’ve planned weddings in castles, in ryokans, under cherry blossoms, beside oceans, in forests lit by komorebi. But the setting, as breathtaking as it is, is never the whole story.

The real magic is this: the couple who chose to say, “We’re alive, we found each other, and that’s enough reason to gather everyone we love in one room and celebrate.”

That’s it. That’s the secret. It isn’t the florals. It isn’t the food. It isn’t the seating chart (though we can tell you, a good seating chart helps… and we’ll write about that soon). It’s the awareness that life itself is the occasion.

Why We Need to Remember This

We live in a culture that constantly tells us we’re behind. That we need bigger houses, faster careers, more followers. That our worth is measured in productivity, not presence.

But when you strip it back, the ridiculous miracle is that you exist at all. And once you let that sink in, you realize: you don’t need the world’s permission to celebrate.

You don’t need a milestone. You don’t need fireworks. You don’t need champagne (though we’ll happily pour you a glass). You just need to remember: You are the reason.

Final Reflection

So yes, we’ll keep creating weddings, elopements, celebrations that look like dreams. Not because the flowers are perfect, but because they remind us what it means to be alive.

Because when you really think about it, what else are we here for? To love people so much it makes your chest ache. To lean on each other. To taste oranges. To remember that the simple act of existence is not just enough. It’s everything.

And maybe that’s the reminder we all need: life itself is the reason to celebrate.
